Fresno Police Department Chief Paco Balderrama says 26-year-old N-Kya Rebecca Logan was stabbed to death and then set on fire by her 41-year-old brother, Aaron Jamal Dudley.
Family members say Logan had just celebrated her upcoming birth with a baby shower on Sunday - just a few days before her body was discovered.
A witness told detectives they saw a suspicious person pushing a city garbage bin to a dirt road near an apartment complex on Cornelia Street and Parkway Drive on Tuesday, then lighting the contents of the bin on fire.
Surveillance video from the apartment complex captured images of Dudley pushing a garbage bin through the neighborhood, police said.
Detectives were able to obtain a search warrant for Logan's home, where she lived with her mother and Dudley. They determined that Dudley stabbed Logan multiple times with a sharp object while they were inside their home.
Dudley then allegedly took his sister into the garage and put her inside a city trash bin before pushing her to the dirt road, pouring gasoline on her, and then lighting her on fire, investigators said.
Her body was later discovered next to the apartment complex at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Maintenance workers in the area saw the flames and used a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze.
Dudley has been booked into the Fresno County Jail. He faces two murder charges.
