Coast Guard rescues newborn baby, family from flooded Carpinteria home

CARPINTERIA, Calif. (KABC) -- The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a family of five -- including a newborn baby -- from a flooded home in Santa Barbara County.

The Coast Guard went to a house in Carpinteria Tuesday after it was slammed by a mudslide.

One by one, emergency crews saved a couple, their baby, their 7-year-old son and their 3-year-old daughter.

They also rescued the family's two dogs.

The Coast Guard says another helicopter crew saved more than 20 evacuees and pets from a shelter hit by the storm.

More than a dozen people were killed from the powerful debris flows that struck Santa Barbara County. A search for survivors continues.
