LEIMERT PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- One person was struck by gunfire in Leimert Park Wednesday night and additional shots were fired at officers who responded to the scene, police said.

While LAPD officers were on scene responding to the gunshot victim, they reported hearing additional gunfire in the area. They took cover and asked for assistance.

No additional injuries were immediately reported, but the windows of an LAPD vehicle were shot out.

"There were like six shots," said Pebbles Washington, who lives near the scene.

Aerial footage showed four officers carrying the wounded man, who was shot in the leg, to safety.

The shooting was reported just before 9 p.m. in the area of Third Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Paramedics were on scene treating the injured victim and then transporting him by ambulance to a local hospital.

Police remained on the scene investigating and searching the neighborhood for the shooter.
