2 dead after gunfire erupts during South LA street takeover

This comes as law enforcement and community members continue to express concern over the dangers of street takeovers.

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A street takeover in South Los Angeles took a violent turn overnight when a shooting broke out, leaving two men dead.

It happened around 2:51 a.m. on Monday at the intersection of Hooper Avenue and Firestone Boulevard.

The sheriff's department said multiple shots were fired. One of the victims was found dead at the scene while the second died at the hospital.

This comes as law enforcement and community members continue to express concern over the dangers of street takeovers.

"They are very dangerous," said LASD Homicide Detective Omar Camacho. "People get struck by vehicles and fights occur and multiple shootings have been happening as well."

Information regarding a suspect or suspects wasn't immediately disclosed.
