Stingray invasion in Huntington Beach raising concerns

Sunday, December 31, 2017
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A stingray invasion is causing problems for people hoping to spend the New Year splashing in the waters of Huntington Beach.

A record 73 people were stung on Friday alone, raising serious alarm for lifeguards.

That staggering number is not comforting for organizers of Surf City Splash.

The annual event, set to take place on New Year's Day, draws hundreds of people to the Huntington Beach pier.

A "stingray station" will be open all day, equipped with hot water to soothe injured swimmers.
