Man drugs, sexually assaults woman before trying to kidnap her at The Abbey in WeHo, authorities say

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- A 42-year-old man was arrested in connection with an alleged drugging, sexual battery and attempted kidnapping of a woman in West Hollywood, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The Sheriff's Department said the incident happened Feb. 25 at The Abbey Food and Bar.

Authorities say a woman reported she had been drugged and sexually assaulted at the nightclub. According to law enforcement, she was drugged by the suspect, Kent Okukporo, and then dragged to a vehicle.

She managed to escape with the help of security guards at The Abbey, but the suspect fled the scene.

Authorities say Okukporo returned the next day and he was spotted by nightclub security guards, who identified him as the suspect.

Okukporo posted bail at $160,000 and was released March 1. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

A statement from The Abbey said in part: "The suspect was arrested because of The Abbey's well-trained security team. We work closely with law enforcement on these efforts including many undercover operations."
