Thomas Fire threatens homes owned by Oprah, Rob Lowe other celebs

MONTECITO, Calif. (KABC) -- Among the homeowners threatened by the ever-expanding Thomas Fire in Santa Barbara County are a number of well-known names.

Oprah Winfrey, Rob Lowe and Ellen DeGeneres are among those who own property in the path of the wildfire which is now one of the five biggest in California's history.

Winfrey tweeted her prayers for the community: "Peace be Still, is my prayer tonight. For all the fires raging thru my community and beyond. #peacebestill"



Retired tennis star Jimmy Connors wrote that his property was in danger and he praised the work of firefighters:" #ThomasFire moving fast-- entering Montecito & Santa Barbara-- many properties in danger- including mine- fire fighters working tirelessly!!"

Lowe said Sunday morning he was packing up to evacuate his home.



The small unincorporated community of Montecito is known as a haven for celebrities and is believed to be the wealthiest community in Santa Barbara County. The beachside community has a population of less than 10,000.



The Thomas Fire has consumed more than 230,000 acres in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties and is one of the five biggest wildfires in California history.
