HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- "Thor: Ragnarok," the third installment in the Marvel hero franchise, held its world premiere Tuesday in Los Angeles.

Fans packed the sidewalks of Hollywood Boulevard hoping to get a glimpse of star Chris Hemsworth, who launched the role in 2011 with the original "Thor" and its sequel "Thor: The Dark World" as well as the Avengers films.

Returning characters in the film include Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, while Cate Blanchett plays a new character, the villain Hela.

In an interview, Hemsworth said one of the joys of making the film was bringing his kids to the set to see their dad fighting monsters.

"They still think that's what I do. They still think I'm somewhat of a hero. I'll keep that dream alive for as long as I can."

The film officially hits theaters Nov. 3.
