Free Puns: Handing out plenty of laughs and groans!

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania -- Aaron Schwartzbaum and Mylin Batipps know a lot about what makes people laugh...and groan!

The two comedians have been helping to spread the word about wordplay by running It's Always Punny in Philadelphia, the city's first and only wordplay group.

Their signature showcase events are pun-offs held at Helium Comedy Club on Samson Street in the city. But they've always been known to take the groan on the road and serenade passers-by with bespoke jokes and bad puns.

To them, it's giving people a laugh, a moan or even a grin that makes it worth while.

Aaron says, "We've seen a lot of grins on their faces. Even if it's unexpected, we gave them a reason to groan today. That makes me kind of warm inside."

Schwartzbaum has been into wordplay and the fun that puns can cause since growing up with a punny family. He's started pun-offs in Washington, D.C. and now has fostered the growing pun community in Philly since 2022.

His pundit in crime, Mylin, has won the pun-offs before and helps Aaron run the grassroots organization.

Mylin says, "It just makes you feel good. Aaron said it before, people who didn't expect something like this, then we give them a joke and it's like, oh, they smiled and they got a little something from it. And I think it's important in current times. It's very stressful in a lot of ways these days. But we're happy to just kind of make it a little bit brighter."

The latest pun-off gets spooky on November 1st and is called It's Always Punny in Philly: Jawn of the Dead.
