LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Los Angeles County Museum of Art's docent-led tour series called "Visible and Vibrant" celebrates LGBTQ+ artists, including Frida Kahlo, whose bold art challenged ideas of identity, beauty and belonging.

"October is LGBTQ+ history month and to celebrate, the One Institute puts on the Circa Queer History Festival every year for the month of October," said Rasheed Newson, One Institute Board Chair.

LACMA's tour is part of One Institute's Circa, a countywide histories festival of performances, lectures, and art under this year's theme, Reclaiming Freedom.

"LGBTQ history month is more important than ever in part because we find ourselves being erased from a lot of history, being minimized in our contributions taken out of the official record of things," Newson said.

Through art, those stories are being reclaimed - one tour at a time.

"We have this program that brings history to life and in a way that should remind everyone the role that queer and transgender people have played in art in community in the lives of everyone around them," Newson said.

"Visible and Vibrant" runs every Friday this month at LACMA.
