LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Longtime news anchor David Ono was surprised on live television with an announcement that he will be the recipient of the 2026 Los Angeles Area Emmy Governors Award.

Cris Abrego, chair of the Television Academy, was on hand to personally give David the news.

"You've been a trusted voice in Los Angeles for over three decades, which is an incredible commitment to excellence in journalism. You've left a mark on L.A. broadcasting and journalism," Abrego said.

The award is presented to an individual, company or organization that has made an outstanding, innovative and visionary contribution to television and the greater Los Angeles area. Previous recipients of the award include L.A. broadcasting greats like Dr. George Fischbeck, Vin Scully and most recently, Jim Hill.

Ono will be presented with the Los Angeles Area Governors Award during the 2026 Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards on July 25.
