Agbonkonkon is a track and field star at the University of Texas with ties to California and has always had a passion for writing.
"Athletics has given me so much, but writing is one of those worlds that I love to be in," he said during an interview on Eyewitness News at 8 a.m.
Having to bring your "A" game while fueling your creativity to write a book may sound like a lot for a college student - but Agbonkonkon makes it sound like light work.
"Whether it's on charter planes, whether it's in the classroom. We have a great student- athletes academic center with some beautiful offices that we can work in, and just having the opportunity to accomplish all these things has been something that's been really great for me," he said.
Agbonkonkon's book is titled "Psychic Suit" and it follows a group of characters called psychics whose powers come from an alien metal.
He said he's always been fascinated by sci-fi worlds and exploring the themes of power and mental health.
"I felt that sci-fi has always been a way to talk about the real world through a fictional lens, so I thought that that is something that I should do through my storytelling as well," he said. "I chose mental health because that's something that's so real that so many people go through, and I kind of wanted to show that it's not something that you have to hide."
Agbonkonkon even recently connected with one of the most famous Longhorns in Hollywood - Matthew McConaughey.
"I do talk with some of McConaughey's people. I actually told him about this segment today. So he's of course in L.A. and hopefully he's watching it live," Agbonkonkon said with a smile. "But just to support from some UT alums in L.A. has been amazing. You know, to talk with some of them to get advice from them."
