Man found fatally shot in car in West Covina parking lot

WEST COVINA, Calif. (KABC) -- A man's body was found inside a car in a West Covina parking lot early Friday morning. Authorities believe the man may have first been shot in Whittier.

Officers responded to a call about a shooting victim in the Citrus Grove Shopping Center parking lot in the 2500 block of East Workman Avenue at around 4:30 a.m.

The deceased man was found in the backseat of a black Nissan Altima. Police said they found two bullet holes in the trunk of the car.

About an hour earlier at 3:15 a.m., police in Whittier received a call about shots fired in the area of Penn Street and Comstock Avenue. Responding officers did not find any victims or suspects at the scene.

Witnesses in the area said they heard up to six shots.

Shortly afterward, Whittier police received a call from West Covina police regarding the body found in the parking lot.

Both the parking lot and the Whittier location were considered crime scenes.

No arrests were made. The victim's identity was not immediately released.
