The two-vehicle collision happened around 6 p.m. in the 1500 block of Sepulveda Boulevard at Ohio Avenue. Police said a Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Sepulveda Boulevard when it collided with a BMW i4.
Firefighters had to free two people who were trapped in each car.
The driver and passenger of the BMW were rushed to a local hospital where they both died at the hospital, police said in an update released on Sunday.
The driver of the Honda was sent to the hospital in critical condition. Police previously said they were investigating the crash as a possible DUI incident but in an update on Sunday, investigators said it's unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor.
Meanwhile, two people who tried to free the trapped patients also suffered minor injuries.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
