ENCINO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Hundreds of feet of mud slammed an Encino home and guest house during a rainstorm that hit the Southland on Monday.

Building and Safety officials red-tagged a guest home in the 17900 block of W. Boris Drive after it was moved off of its foundation by debris flow.

The main house is yellow-tagged and all residents living inside are staying elsewhere, Los Angeles Fire Department officials said. No other structures were damaged.

The LAFD said approximately 200 feet of mud hit the buildings.

Homeowner Joyce Sachs said her family has lived at the home for 35 years and had never had debris flow problems before Monday night's incident.

She said her husband was home alone at about 3 p.m. when the wall of mud came crashing down.

"I couldn't believe it - the devastation that mud can cause," she said.

A grading expert evaluated the hillside and determined there is no other risk of a new mud flow for the night. But as a precaution, 14 homes along Boris and Martson drives were notified by police that they could evacuate voluntarily.

"I'm very concerned that with the amount of rain that's being forecast, that this hill can continue to slide, and we have several homes that can be impacted by that," said LAFD Battalion Chief Andrew Wordin.

Both a geologist and grading expert will perform another evaluation of the hillside Tuesday morning, when more rain is expected.
