ALTADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- Kevin Jordon lost his home in the Eaton Fire. We first met him days after the blaze at the Santa Anita donation site, where he shared a heart-wrenching account of his experience. His raw emotions left a lasting impression on our viewers.

"I lost everything. I lost the money I saved, I lost my cat, I lost my uncle's ashes, I lost everything," he told Eyewitness News that day.

Like thousands of other Eaton Fire victims, he is still putting his life back together a year after the flames destroyed everything he had. But Jordon says he always tries to retain a positive outlook.

"I don't put myself in a position of negative. Never down, find some way to just smile and to make somebody else smile," said Jordon, who now works at Starbucks.

The community's generosity helped Jordon even though the challenges have continued.

He said the past year has had its share of ups and downs.

"For sure like a roller coaster and always steps to take. So what I do is, I take those steps and whatever guides me makes me a stronger person," he said.

Donations helped him buy the car he had been saving for when the fire hit, but it was totaled by a hit-and-run driver. After months of searching, he has finally found a new home.

Jordon's love of music and dance have helped him through the pain and grief.

A GoFundMe account was set up to help him as he continues to fight for a better future.

Jordon says he has often wondered why the last 12 months were so challenging and difficult, but he says it has shown him that he is stronger than he ever imagined.

"I got a life that's the main goal. I'm still living. Those are little things. As long as I can keep going, keep smiling that's the goal of the movie," he said with a smile.
