Suspect dead after hourslong barricade escalates to Woodland Hills house fire with shots fired

WOODLAND HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man who barricaded himself inside a Woodland Hills home is dead following the hourslong standoff that escalated into a raging fire and shots fired, authorities confirmed.

The incident unfolded in the 5000 block of Owensmouth Avenue, where Los Angeles police officers initially responded to a domestic violence call on Sunday.

The suspect was barricaded inside the home for several hours. At one point, tear gas was deployed.

AIR7 flew above the scene shortly after 11 p.m. as the home was fully engulfed in flames.



The residence is part of a three-unit townhouse complex, and it appeared that the flames spread to the neighboring units. Police said nearby homes were evacuated.



It was not clear if the suspect set the fire.

Eventually, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported that as crews battled the blaze, shots were being fired from the home.

Police said a woman, believed to be the man's wife, sustained injuries. Further details on her condition were not immediately available.

Officers noted that the barricaded man was a registered gun owner, and guns are believed to be inside the residence.
