Woman accused of opening fire at Rihanna's home in Beverly Crest pleads not guilty

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The 35-year-old woman who allegedly fired shots at Rihanna's Los Angeles mansion pleaded not guilty in court Wednesday to several charges including attempted murder.

Ivana Lisette Ortiz is accused of using a semi-automatic rifle to fire multiple rounds at the Beverly Crest property while the singer was home earlier this month. Her partner A$AP Rocky, their three children, her mother and two staff members were also in the home at the time. No one was hurt.

Ortiz is facing 14 counts including attempted murder, use of a firearm, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and shooting into an inhabited dwelling with enhancements.

Ortiz's defense attorneys requested a bail reduction to an amount she can afford. But the state argued that she is a risk to public safety and a flight risk, considering she lives in Florida. The judge agreed, and the reduction request was denied.

Bail is currently set at $1,875,000. That figure was initially set at $10 million, because there were 10 victims present during the shooting, but it was later reduced. It's unclear why it was reduced.

Ortiz's next hearing is set for April 8.

The Los Angeles Police Department believes Ortiz drove to L.A. from Florida before the shooting, but a motive still remains unclear.

"My understanding is the person drove here from Florida. How long they've been in the area ... I don't have that information," LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said earlier this month. "They're working on that. That would be part of the whole motive, why the person came out here. We haven't established a motive, we do know, and are aware of, social media posts that had been made that they're looking into further."

If convicted on all charges, Ortiz faces up to life in state prison.

Details about the shooting at Rihanna's home

Multiple shots were fired at the residence, but none penetrated the inside of her home, only the exterior, sources said. Multiple rounds did hit the outside of the home, though, as well as a vehicle parked out front.

Video from the scene showed bullet holes covered with tape on the home's front gate.

Sources said that the weapon allegedly used by Ortiz was an AR-style gun. At least two homes on the block had bullet holes.

In dispatch audio, officials are heard saying the suspect's Tesla was followed by an LAPD helicopter into a mall parking garage, where she was pulled over and detained by patrol units.

Prosecutors said in court Wednesday that when Ortiz was found in her vehicle, she had a gun, ammunition and a disguise. They described the shooting as extremely dangerous and calculated, saying Ortiz's used of a disguise showed planning.

Investigators are trying to determine whether Ortiz knew if Rihanna lived at the home. The motive of the shooting remains under investigation, but law enforcement sources told ABC News that they are looking at all aspects of Ortiz' life, including her social media presence, to find answers.

What we know about Ivana Lisette Ortiz

According to police, Ortiz had posted multiple videos on social media in recent months, rambling about Rihanna.

One video was posted on Jan. 4. In that video, Ortiz is heard saying "Listen Rihanna, when you die God is taking me to my future.. yeah, she wants to kill me. Shut the [expletive] up."

Ortiz' criminal record from Florida shows several incidents of domestic violence dating back to 2023.

She had been a licensed speech pathologist for about a decade. The court on Wednesday ruled that Ortiz be prohibited from practicing her profession while the case proceeds.
