AZUSA, Calif. (KABC) -- A brush fire erupted in Azusa Monday evening, growing to about 25 acres, officials said.

The fire, dubbed the Zebra Fire, was reported at about 7 p.m. near Highway 39 and Mountain Laurel Way.

Fire officials said that Highway 39 was closed at Sierra Madre while crews battled the brush fire.

Officials with the Angeles National Forest say no homes are currently threatened. The fire is burning away from homes, up a steep hill near the mouth of the San Gabriel Canyon.

Water-dropping helicopters are expected to continue working through the night to extinguish the flames.

It's unclear what started the blaze.
