At Los Angeles International Airport, there was a steady flow of traffic in the early morning. About 232,000 passengers are expected to pass through the airport in what is considered the busiest travel day after Thanksgiving.
Severe weather in parts of the country have also affected air travel as winter weather advisories were issued.
LAX is the third busiest airport in the country, just behind Chicago and Atlanta. But it also has the longest TSA lines and so travelers are reminded to come early to get through the process.
Airport officials estimated about 2.3 million people passed through the airport over the course of the holiday weekend. The official Thanksgiving travel period began Nov. 18 and ends Monday.
The number of people traveling has increased by 8.4 percent over last year's record 2.1 million travelers, according to Los Angeles World Airports.
