PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- The world premiere of a musical joining American and Asian artists is underway at the Pasadena Playhouse.

The new musical is called "Waterfall," set in pre-World War II Thailand and Japan.

It is based on a Thai novel. The musical's book and lyrics are by Tony winner Richard Maltby and music by Oscar winner David Shire, who changed the story about social class by changing its female lead from a Thai woman to an American.
