RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (KABC) -- Residents in a Rancho Cucamonga neighborhood were shaken by an early morning standoff that occurred in the area over the weekend.

SWAT team members surrounded a home in the 11600 block of Brindisi Way Sunday morning after a homeowner called 911 to report a burglary.

The homeowner arrived at his residence and found the door open and someone inside, according to investigators. The suspect then shot at the homeowner. Authorities said the owner then ran to his car, grabbed his gun and returned fire.

Next door neighbor Ed Young said he didn't hear the gunshots, instead it was the SWAT team at his door that woke him up.

"Definitely scary stuff to have that happening right next to your house and you have children at home," he said. "The SWAT team was here with M-16s and bulletproof jackets on and they told me I had the option to leave...so we left."

A perimeter was set up while SWAT officers tried to make contact with the suspect. The standoff ended three hours later with no arrest.

Surveillance cameras may have captured a glimpse of the suspect.

Adrianna Pedriza said she turned over footage from her security camera to investigators.

"It captures somebody going in before and then leaving," she said. "

The shooting has left neighbors on high alert and they are taking precautions.

The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect remains on the loose.
