Disneyland to build new 7-level, 6,800-space parking structure

ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) -- A new parking structure will be constructed at Disneyland as part of the $1 billion investment deal the theme park has with the city of Anaheim.

On Aug. 2, the park announced the Eastern Gateway project, which will be a new seven-level, 6,800-space parking structure and a pedestrian bridge to the resort near a hotel.

The new structure will be at the site of the Pumbaa parking lot and a transportation hub east of Harbor Boulevard. Along with the structure, the Carousel Inn and Suites will close Oct. 17 to make way for an elevated pedestrian bridge for visitors to move between the parking lot and Disneyland resort.

According to the resort, all bookings at the hotel made from that date and after will be moved to other nearby hotels.

The parking structure is being constructed to "improve overall guest circulation in the area," according to the park, and aims to relieve congestion on Ball Road, Harbor Boulevard, Katella Avenue and Disneyland Drive.

Construction will begin sometime in 2017 and is scheduled to be completed in 2018.
