LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Locals in Long Beach are hoping that if Los Angeles is chosen to host the 2024 Summer Olympics their city can be a location for a few of the sporting events.

For the 1984 Summer Olympics, Long Beach hosted volleyball, fencing at the convention center, sailing at the Shoreline Marina and archery at El Dorado Park.

The city also has experience in hosting international sporting events, including the annual Grand Prix.

In an interview with the Long Beach Press Telegram, Mayor Robert Garcia said he is disappointed the city is not listed in Los Angeles' initial proposal to the U.S. Olympic Committee.

However, if Los Angeles gets to host the games, Garcia has spoken with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti about possible options in Long Beach.

In September, the winner of the U.S. bid will be announced, but that winner will have to compete with Paris, Rome and Hamburg, Germany to become the official host of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
