A carjacking suspect was found dead after barricading himself in a home in a Bellflower neighborhood, in an incident that prompted some residents to be evacuated early Thursday morning. (KABC)

A carjacking suspect was found dead hours after barricading himself in a home in a Bellflower neighborhood, according to authorities to authorities, in an incident that prompted some residents to be evacuated Thursday morning.

The suspect apparently carjacked a PT Cruiser, which he drove to the 17600 block of Downey Avenue, Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said.

The suspect was involved in a crash with another vehicle. Then, he ditched the PT Cruiser and broke into a nearby home, where he barricaded himself.


Investigators said there was a woman inside that residence at the time, but she was able to get out safely.

Surrounding homes were evacuated for safety.

The LASD Special Enforcement Bureau's Special Weapons Team and crisis negotiators responded to the scene to assist deputies with the incident.

The suspect's cause of death was not immediately known, nor was it clear if he had been armed.
