Officials investigate an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead in El Sereno.

EL SERENO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- One person died after being shot in an officer-involved shooting Sunday morning in El Sereno, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The incident occurred about 6:40 a.m. after officers responded to a report of two men, one of them armed with a handgun. The initial report indicated that at one point they were sleeping behind a vehicle near the intersection of Topaz Street and Huntington Drive, an LAPD spokesperson said.

Police opened fire at one point and one person was shot and killed. No officers were injured, the LAPD said.

The second person fled the scene.

Police say officers recovered a handgun at the scene.

What prompted the shooting was not immediately clear.
