CHINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A 5-year-old girl battling stage-three kidney cancer credits Maroon 5 for helping her get through treatment. Esperanza Duran, also known as Espy, loves the band so much she even performed one of their songs at a talent show.
Espy, who was diagnosed with cancer on July 14 -- her 5th birthday -- has been in remission for two and a half weeks.
In the past nine months, Espy has undergone several rounds of chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. Despite her health troubles, Espy's mom, Gloria Duran, says Espy has always kept a smile on her face.
"She'd come home, sleep, maybe throw up and then she was back at it playing with her brothers and sisters," Duran said.
Espy recently heard that Maroon 5 is in town and is hoping to score tickets to Monday night's concert at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
"On the way home, we heard on the radio that Maroon 5 was going to be in concert and Espy got excited and said, 'Mom, I wanna go. I wanna meet them,'" Duran said.
Espy says it's her dream to meet Maroon 5 and sing "Sugar" with Adam Levine on stage.
"I want to see Maroon 5 because I love them," Espy said.
The Duran family has shared a series of photos and videos on her Facebook page hoping to make her wish come true.
"I'm just hoping somebody will hear, you know, that has maybe some connection to him, and like I said just give her five minutes, that's all we're asking. I think it would be huge considering everything that she's been through," Duran said. "It's a one in a million chance, but I have a one in a million child."
