LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The legal battle over Casey Kasem's well-being played out again inside a Los Angeles courtroom on Tuesday.
Attorneys for Kerri Kasem, the radio legend's daughter and his temporary conservator, are fighting to learn the exact whereabouts of the ailing 82-year-old in an effort to bring him back to Los Angeles.
Casey Kasem's wife, Jean, was also represented by an attorney. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daniel S. Murphy asked her attorney if Jean was on vacation in Washington State with her husband. The attorney said the couple was not on vacation.
The judge implored Jean's attorney to disclose the radio legend's whereabouts. The attorney said he didn't know. Authorities found him in Kitsap County in Washington last week after Murphy ordered adult protective services to locate him, but the judge said the lack of additional information and cooperation troubles him.
Kerri Kasem has the authority to decide where her father should receive medical treatment. Casey Kasem suffers from a type of dementia and can no longer speak. His daughters saw him in early May at a care facility in Santa Monica. But they say their stepmother moved him out of the facility hours after their visit and took him to Washington.
A judge on Tuesday expanded the powers of Kerri Kasem to determine whether her father is receiving adequate medical care. The judge said she could hire an unarmed private investigator to help find her father if necessary.
Murphy ordered Kasem's wife, Jean, to comply with court orders allowing doctors to evaluate her husband, and also allow his daughter Kerri to see him.
The judge authorized an investigation into Casey Kasem's whereabouts and said if the entertainer is given doctors' approval to travel to Los Angeles, then he should be transported.
"We are happy with the decision the court made today. Now Kerri and family can focus on bringing their father back home, where he can get the proper care and support that he needs," Kerri Kasem's spokesperson Danny Deraney said in a statement.
