LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Drew Barrymore's half-sister was found dead in a car in a San Diego County neighborhood, authorities said.

Jessica Barrymore, who would have turned 48 on Thursday, was found in the 900 block of Hoover Avenue in National City just after 6 a.m. Tuesday.

"Although I only met her briefly, I wish her and her loved ones as much peace as possible, and I'm so incredibly sorry for their loss," Drew Barrymore said in a statement.

According to San Diego ABC affiliate KGTV, a neighbor spotted Jessica Barrymore in her car with a SoBe energy drink between her legs and white pills scattered around.

A cause of death has not been determined. An autopsy is pending.

Jessica Barrymore and Drew Barrymore's father was actor John Barrymore.
