'Guardians of the Galaxy' is family-friendly fun
'Guardians of the Galaxy' is on pace to make out-of-this-world money on opening weekend. Should you kick in cash to see it?

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Marvel's latest adventure, "Guardians of the Galaxy" introduces us to a ragtag team of superheroes led by actor Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, AKA "Star Lord." Zoe Saldana co-stars as "Gamora," Dave Bautista is "Drax," and Vin Diesel voices a tree named "Groot" (who only knows how to say one thing: "I am Groot!").

Both kids and adults will likely love the character of "Rocket," a fast-talking, fast-thinking raccoon. And that's due to a great vocal performance from Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper.

As is the case, it seems, with all superhero movies, the stories and the backstories have their complexities -- but it still all boils down to good versus evil and keeping the peace in the world.

"Guardians" feels edgier than most Marvel outings, with some humor that will definitely fly over kids' heads. The writing is clever. And the 1970s soundtrack is really one of the film's stars.
