Dad delivers baby on 91 Freeway in Anaheim
Nothing could have prepared a career Marine for delivering his baby girl on the side of the 91 Freeway.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) -- Nothing could have prepared a career Marine for what was perhaps the challenge of a lifetime -- delivering his baby girl on the side of the westbound 91 Freeway.

"I'm in shock still a little bit about it. Everything was going really fast, but not really. It's going 1 million miles a minute in your head," said Bolivar Vilchez.

Savannah Vilchez made her entrance into the world around 4 a.m. Saturday near Kraemer Boulevard in her family's SUV, with her 6-year-old brother and 4-and 3-year-old sisters in the back seat.

"I wanted the medication, I wanted the doctors, I wanted the nurses, all of it. Not, hey I'm in the Tahoe and I'm delivering my child," said mother Sandra Vilchez.

The family was on their way to grandma's house in Downey from their home in Wildomar when Sandra's water suddenly broke.

"She gave that one scream and that one scream was enough for me to go from the carpool lane over to the right shoulder and dial 911 at the same time," Bolivar said.

"Once he swings around from the driver's side to passenger's side to come next to me, her head is out already," said Sandra.

With the dispatcher's help, Bolivar delivered his daughter. It's an experience the Iraq veteran will never forget.

"Nothing can prepare you for this, 18 years and nothing can prepare you for this at all," he said.

Mom and baby are doing just fine after the shock of the sudden delivery, and learning Savannah's surprising stats: 11 pounds 6 ounces, 22 inches long. A big bundle of baby love with an amazing story to tell about her arrival.
