BEL AIR, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A young philanthropist is celebrating the two-year anniversary of his "Chocolate Bar" book which he wrote to help find a cure for his best friend's rare liver condition.
Dylan Siegel, 8, and his best friend Jonah Pournazarian returned to Wise Elementary School in Bel Air Sunday, where it all started, to celebrate the milestone.
The goal two years ago was to raise $500,000. As of Sunday, Siegel's book has raised nearly $900,000.
One-hundred percent of the funds go to the University of Florida to research Jonah's disease.
Jonah has a rare form of glycogen storage disease, a hereditary disorder that means his liver can store sugar but can't release it, causing him to have dangerously low blood sugar levels that can result in seizures or even death.
"I feel amazing that he has wrote this book for me to help me find a cure, find a cure for my disease," Jonah said.
Meantime, Dylan is thrilled to be making a difference.
"Don't just think about what you want to do, just do it, and if you want help, ask your parents and you can make anything happen," Siegel said.
The "Chocolate Bar" book, which is about lots of good things like chocolate bars, has sold more than 20,000 copies in 60 countries and all 50 states.
