MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (KABC) -- Moreno Valley police say nearly $200,000 worth of stolen jewelry has been recovered and two people have been arrested in connection to a recent burglary.

Police say they were conducting an investigation in the area of Sunnymead Boulevard and Heacock Street on Monday when they attempted to stop a 1995 Ford Explorer for a traffic violation.

The driver, 26-year-old George Xavier, fled the scene on foot and eluded capture. His passenger, 24-year-old Tearza Edwards-Cayless, also tried to flee but was caught.

Officers located over $190,000 worth of jewelry stolen during a burglary in Thousand Oaks on Saturday. The jewelry has since been returned to the rightful owner.

Xavier was located and arrested later Monday night at a home in the 25300 block of Alessandro Boulevard in Moreno Valley.

Additional stolen property was found at Xavier's home.

Xavier was booked for two counts of burglary and possession of stolen property, and his bail was set at $300,000.

Investigators say Edwards-Cayless, who is currently on parole for burglary, was booked for burglary and possession of stolen property.
