LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Nearly three years after a woman was gunned down in the Rampart area, Los Angeles police are still searching for her killer.

A $50,000 reward was offered Thursday, hoping it leads to a break in the murder case.

The pain hasn't eased at all for the family of 51-year-old Lorri Anderson. She was gunned down near her Rampart-area home on Dec. 11, 2012.

She was walking along South Coronado Street near 8th Street that night. A man got out of a dark-colored sedan and shot her, according to police. Anderson died a short time later at the hospital.

"I just want justice for my mother, for my children that will never know their grandmother," said Suzanna Reyes. "I was the one that received the phone call. I was the one that had to identify her body along with other members of my family while pregnant."

Anderson's family says they pleaded with her to return and live with them at their family farm in San Bernardino. But the answer was always the same: no.

At her funeral, those who knew her in Rampart explained why Anderson chose to live in one of the city's roughest neighborhoods.

"Stories of her helping friends overcome addiction, stories of her being the mother they never had, as well as stories of her giving her last bit of food to someone who needed it just a bit more than she did," said Nicole Gilbert, the victim's daughter.

The city has put up a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who killed Anderson.

"We cannot have justice unless we capture the cowards who engaged in this heinous crime," said L.A. City Councilman Gil Cedillo.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department at (877) LAPD-24-7.
