1 dead as violent crash brings down 3 transformers in Arleta
Officials said a driver distracted by a two-vehicle crash hit a power pole, causing a transformer to fall and crush the cabin of his truck, killing the man.

ARLETA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- One person is dead following a violent crash that brought down three transformers in Arleta on Wednesday.

Officials said they were called to the intersection of West Osborne Street and Canterbury Avenue at about 5:35 p.m.

The fire department said it was an unfortunate event that lead to the death of a man. Two vehicles were involved in a crash near the intersection. As a pickup truck was passing the crash and attempting to make a turn, officials said he was distracted by the original crash.

Officials said while trying to look at the crash, the man took the turn to fast and slid into a power pole. That's when a transformer fell and landed on the cabin of his truck, killing him. Two other transformers were brought down as well.

The downed transformers caused a mass power outage in the area.

The intersection of Osborne Street and Canterbury Avenue was closed as crews worked to clear the downed transformers.
