HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man was arrested Sunday morning in connection with a fight outside a Hollywood nightclub that left another man dead, authorities said. A second suspect remained on the loose.
The incident began around 2:35 a.m. as revelers left a Halloween party in the 1600 block of Cahuenga Boulevard.
Officers initially responded to a report of battery, and arrived to discover an injured man on the ground, the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Division said. That person was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the incident started when two women outside the nightclub got into a fight. After that, two men chased another man and punched and kicked him, leading to his eventual death.
One suspect fled the scene in a party bus, police said. Officers stopped the bus near Hollywood and Cahuenga boulevards and arrested a man who was attempting to flee, the LAPD said.
The second man fled on foot and is still at-large.
Police identified the suspect as Dietrich Canterberry, 34, of Anaheim. Canterberry was arrested for murder and held on $2 million bail.
The victim was identified as Devion Jelkes, 28, of Los Angeles. Family members say he loved music and sang in his church choir.
The second suspect was described as an African-American man, about 35 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing about 185 pounds. He was last seen wearing dark pants and a white T-shirt.
LAPD investigators were seen collecting evidence in a taped-off area outside the Couture nightclub. A "Halloween Monster Ball" had been scheduled for Saturday evening at the venue, according to its Facebook page.
