TORRANCE, Calif. (KABC) --A $50,000 rewards is being offered for leads to a hit-and-run incident that left an 82-year-old man dead in Torrance.
Ho Nam said he regrets not seeing his father during the holidays. He never imagined Jung Taek Nam would be struck and killed just a couple of weeks later.
Jung Taek Nam exited a bus around 5:30 a.m. near S. Vermont Avenue and Francisco Street on Jan. 7 when he was struck, according to Los Angeles police. The suspect fled the scene.
Authorities were now asking for the public's help to find the driver responsible for the crime.
"If he would have stopped he could have helped him and he could have been still alive," said Sung Nam, a son of the victim.
The reward was being offered for information leading to the arrest, prosecution and conviction of the suspect.
LAPD officers from the South Traffic Division said they believe the driver was in a dark or midnight blue late model Dodge Challenger.
If found, the driver could face a felony hit-and-run charge.
Family members said the victim was a veteran Korean army official who fought alongside the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
Anyone with information was asked to call LAPD detectives at (323) 421-2500.
