BUENA PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- A high-speed chase involving the California Highway Patrol ended when the suspect's car crashed on the 91 Freeway in Buena Park.

According to the CHP, it all started around 2:15 a.m. Friday when they tried to pull over a car going faster than 100 mph. The driver's speed was the reason for the attempted traffic stop.

Officers said the driver made a hard right turn on the eastbound 91 Freeway near the Knott Avenue exit, clipped another car, then rolled off the side of the freeway.

It took Orange County firefighters nearly 45 minutes to free the suspect from the mangled car. The occupants of the clipped vehicle were not believed to be injured.

The Knott Avenue ramp was shut down for hours and was expected to be reopened at 10 a.m.

The suspect was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries that are considered life-threatening, CHP said.
