Oscar preps prompts early closures in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The excitement is building as the street lights on Hollywood Boulevard are coming down and everything "Oscar" is going up.

Oscar himself was already center stage as the massive gold statue was the star of the selfies Sunday night, exactly one week before the star-studded ceremony.

"I saw the statue. I think it looks phenomenal...It's my first time here, I think it's pretty exciting," said Katia Prince of Miami.

Bleachers were already going up in the heart of Hollywood as crews began building the massive red carpet arrival area.

But with the celebration comes numerous road closures - the biggest taking effect at 10 p.m. on Hollywood Boulevard between Orange Drive and Highland Avenue.

More closures will take effect as the week goes on, and it's already having an impact.

"I was kind of disappointed that stuff was already beginning this weekend, and I realize it is a big production to put on so it makes sense, but it kind of takes you by surprise," said Holly Halls of West Los Angeles.

Whether you love it or hate it, there's no denying Oscar excitement is building.
