HOLLYWOOD HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) --The popular hiking trails at Runyon Canyon Park will be temporarily closed from April to July for pipe replacement work, city officials announced Wednesday.
The Runyon Canyon Water System Improvement Project will provide the Los Angeles community with an improved fire protection system, reduction in pipe breaks and water quality improvements, City Councilman David Ryu said.
Approximately one mile of a six-inch pipe that runs through the park in the 2000 block of N. Fuller Avenue will be replaced.
"It's important to provide not only the water supply that connects the neighborhoods on Mulholland with this area but also provides the firefighting capabilities that'll protect this valuable resource," said Marty Adams with the L.A. Department of Water and Power.
The yoga field at the park will remain open throughout the construction project.
