DUARTE, Calif. (KABC) -- The search continues for three masked home-invasion suspects who were seen fleeing from a neighborhood after beating up a couple inside their Duarte home.

Around 1 p.m. in the 2100 block of Rim Road, authorities said three men attacked a man outside of his home. The suspects then went to the victim's front door and attacked his wife when she answered, authorities said.

Neighbors said the suspects then robbed the home and two of the suspects escaped in a silver SUV. A third man didn't make it to the SUV, but attempted to carjack someone. When his attempt failed, he ran away on foot.

Witness George Halburian said he found his friends bruised and bleeding not long after the ordeal happened.

"(He) was lying in my driveway calling my name. He was all bloody and beaten up pretty bad. So I tended to him and then I noticed his wife was sitting on the curb and she was beat up pretty bad," he said.

Residents in the neighborhood said they're on edge, especially because they believe their homes are targeted. One woman said there have been a few home invasions and car thefts in the area.

The couple was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The man suffered a fractured cheek bone and remained hospitalized, according to authorities.

The investigation was ongoing.
