Ice cream truck driver beaten, robbed near high school in Whittier

An ice cream truck driver was beaten and robbed near California High School on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

An ice cream truck driver was beaten and robbed near a high school in Whittier on Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The Norwalk Sheriff's Station said the attack happened at about 4:30 p.m. at Hawes Street and Ruoff Avenue, near California High School in unincorporated Whittier.

Deputies said the driver was hit with a blunt object and was taken to the hospital by helicopter.

Three male suspects ran from the scene, according to officials.

The driver was in stable condition, deputies said.
