ARCADIA, Calif. (KABC) -- Thousands of participants joined the 22nd annual Santa Anita Derby Day 5K in Arcadia on Saturday.
About 6,000 people were expected to join the run-walk race at Santa Anita Park, which was set to last all day with fun activities for both adults and children.
Entertainment, food and music will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon. After that, a children's race for ages 7 and 12 years old was expected to begin at 9:45 a.m. - this year, with strollers allowed. Moms and dads who want to bring their young ones are allowed to participate in the 3/4-mile "Homestretch Dash."
Runners and walkers have the chance to race right on the track where award-winning horses normally steal the show. The 5K course runs through the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden and finishes on the legendary Santa Anita Race Track.
For many others, the fun is on the sidelines for a full day of thoroughbred racing leading up to the $1 million Grade I Santa Anita Derby.
