Police were on the hunt for a hit-and-run driver accused of striking and killing a pedestrian in Long Beach early Monday morning.

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Police were on the hunt for a hit-and-run driver accused of striking and killing a pedestrian in Long Beach early Monday morning.

The crash happened about 1:15 a.m. in the 3600 block of E. 7th Street, according to authorities of the Long Beach Police Department.

Police said a male victim, later identified as 27-year-old William Mendoza of Buena Park, was struck before the driver of the vehicle fled. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities were working to confirm whether the suspect vehicle may have possibly been a white 2006 to 2010 Chrysler 300 model. The vehicle was expected to have damage to the front, according to police.

Seventh Street was temporarily closed as LBPD officers investigated the scene.
