Popular La Crescenta teacher mourned by teachers, students
Teachers at a La Crescenta school are raising funds to help the family of a teacher who died one day after moving into a new home.

LA CRESCENTA, Calif. (KABC) -- Students and teachers at a La Crescenta middle school are mourning the loss of a popular teacher and hoping to raise some funds to help his family.

Mark Sanderl died unexpectedly of a heart attack on April 22, one day after moving into a new home with his wife and two young children.

Now teachers at Rosemont Middle School have organized a GoFundMe page to help the family and show their love for the computer teacher. They told ABC7 about the story through #abc7eyewitness.

"He was the consummate teacher," said teacher Marta Brewer. "But he would always come in with a smile. He had a great sense of humor. Just was the light of my mornings. And he was that way with the kids too."

They are hoping to raise $75,000, saying on the page: "Our goal is to help alleviate some financial burden and to show his family just how much he was loved, respected, and admired."
