Son of ex-'Real Housewives' star arrested in Costa Mesa attempted murder
Joshua Waring, the son of Lauri Peterson from 'The Real Housewives of Orange County', was arrested for attempted murder.

COSTA MESA, Calif. (KABC) -- The son of a former "Real Housewives of Orange County" cast member was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and other charges.

Costa Mesa police received a report of a gunshot victim around 2:30 a.m. Monday in the 2900 block of Babb Street.

When officers arrived on scene, they found 35-year-old Daniel Lopez suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower torso. He was transported to an area hospital and is expected to survive, authorities said.

Witnesses identified the shooting suspect as Joshua Waring. Officers spotted the 27-year-old driving a stolen white BMW SUV near Standard and McFadden avenues in Santa Ana around 10:30 a.m.

When contacted by police, Waring sped off in the SUV. He eventually crashed near Fourth and Terminal streets and fled on foot.

Authorities said Waring tried to hide inside a nearby business but surrendered to Santa Ana police after a brief standoff.

According to officials, investigators found evidence related to the attempted murder but not the gun used in the shooting.

Waring, of San Juan Capistrano, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, vehicle theft, felony evading, hit and run and assault and battery. His bail was set at $1 million.

His mother, Lauri Peterson, was a cast member of the Bravo series "The Real Housewives of Orange County" from its debut in 2006 until 2008, when she left to deal with her son's problems, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"As most of the viewers know, I have a son and he's had just a lot of challenges. And he and his wife had a baby almost three years ago. He's really struggling and well they're both really struggling," Peterson said in an interview posted to Bravo's website.

If you have any information about the shooting, you're urged to contact Detective George Maridakis at (714) 754-5051.
