ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) -- An armed man accused of attempted murder, kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon was shot during a foot pursuit in Anaheim.

At approximately 6 p.m. Monday, a man called police saying he was physically assaulted and taken against his will by three suspects - two men and a woman.

According to police, that victim said one man was armed with a knife, the second man was armed with a knife and the woman was armed with a club-type weapon.

The men were identified as 25-year-old Frank Velasquez and 20-year-old Alan-Osvaldo Reza-Palamino, both of Anaheim.

Roughly four hours later, Anaheim police spotted Velasquez and Reza-Palamino getting into a car on the 1800 block of W. Neighbors Avenue.

Officers tried to pull over the vehicle, but the suspects did not stop, triggering a short, slow-speed pursuit. Police used their patrol vehicle to stop the suspects' car at the intersection of La Palma and Mohican avenues.

That's when Reza-Palamino fled on foot, and he was shot by police. The circumstances that led to the shooting are still under investigation, but authorities recovered a firearm at the scene.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Velasquez was arrested at the scene.

The two men will be charged with attempted murder and kidnapping. Although the motives are unknown, authorities said the two are suspected to have gang ties.

Both men are expected to be booked into the Anaheim Detention Facility and held on $500,000 bail.

Police are still searching for the female suspect for the alleged kidnapping and assault.
