SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) -- A 17-year-old boy was in critical condition Saturday morning after being struck in Santa Ana by two drivers, one of which fled the scene, authorities said.

The incident was reported at 12:15 a.m. in the 3500 block of MacArthur Boulevard, the Santa Ana Police Department said. Witnesses said a pedestrian was lying motionless in the roadway in front of a Home Depot, bleeding from the head.

Police officers and Orange County Fire Authority paramedics responded to location, and the victim was transported to a hospital.

The driver involved in the initial collision, who did not display any symptoms of impairment, remained at the crash site and gave a statement to investigators, according to authorities.

A preliminary investigation indicated two pedestrians were "crossing the intersection of MacArthur Boulevard at the Home Depot driveway diagonally" when one of them was struck, police said in a news release. Moments later, that pedestrian was hit by a dark-colored SUV.

The second driver drove away after the impact.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call Investigator Hadley of the Santa Monica Police Department at (714) 245-8216.
