RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (KABC) -- Two high school students were arrested in Rancho Cucamonga on Tuesday, accused of conspiracy to commit murder.

The incident began as a rumor last week about a shooting at Los Osos High School. The resource officer began investigating the rumor.

"I kept hearing about a shooting going on, and I've been here a student for four years, and I know like crazy things could happen, so I took it serious," said student Jayden Harris.

Many students stayed home on Monday as a result of the rumor.

"Half the school was gone," said student David Odigie.

Police determined that there were two people responsible, a 14-year-old male student and a 14-year-old female student.

The male student was called into the principal's office, where he turned his cellphone over to school administrators.

Rancho Cucamonga police obtained a conversation on the cellphone between the two teens about people they wanted dead. The conversation was through texting and social media.

The teens have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Police say the male student did most of the talking and instigating the conversation, but because the female student did not turn him in or tell authorities, she was implicated in the crime as well.
