SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A 22-year-old woman was shot in the head Wednesday night after two suspects tried to rob her and her boyfriend in San Bernardino.

The victim's boyfriend, Michael Riordan, said they were walking back from a 7-Eleven near Mountain View Avenue and 24th Street after buying a couple of drinks. That's when two men approached them and tried to rob them.

Riordan said he tried to fight back.

"They tried to get money off of me, but they didn't get nothing. They just tried to grab me and once I backed up a little bit, they shot my girl," he said.

One of the suspects tried to get into a fight with the couple and while he struggled with Riordan, the second suspect shot the woman in the head.

The suspects are said to be young, between 17 and 19 years old, according to Riordan's description. He also said they were wearing hoodies.

Authorities said the victim was listed in critical condition, but is now in serious but stable condition.

The investigation was ongoing.
